Prince is my big happiness. He is a Chihuahua at just 5 lbs heavy. He has been my tiny buddy for 15 years now. He would wait for me everyday until I get home from work, and never wants to leave my side, or my lap for that matter, whenever I am around. However, Prince has become blind to cataract, is a bit deaf, has lost his teeth, and now takes medication for arthritis. Time has taken its toll. I don't calculate his age anymore, as I refuse to accept how old he must be. He literally sleeps beside me every night, not at the foot of the bed nor on his side of the bed, but right beside me.
Every morning, I gently wake him up by rubbing my hands on his nose so he can smell me before I scoop him up for his morning routine. I always have to be very gentle so as not to startle him. He has been very clingy since he lost his eyesight to cataract. But this little fellow has adjusted to his condition, finding his way around our home, and has again become his playful self. He is a strong 15-year old dog. I know that I need him more than he needs me. Our friendship is beyond words that I can ever put together. I tell him I love him a million times a day. He may not understand the words but I am very sure he knows it and our love is what's keeping him strong.
